Beijing Slams United States of ‘Contradictory Stances’ Concerning Tariff Threat

Donald Trump’s most recent warning to impose an further 100% tariff on items imported from China has been called a “prime illustration” of American hypocrisy, per the Chinese government.

A representative of the ministry also stated that the nation could introduce its own unrevealed “responsive actions” if the US President follows through on his pledge, noting that the country was “unafraid” of a potential commercial battle.

On Friday, Trump hit back at China’s decision to tighten its rules for exports of rare earth minerals, charging Beijing of “turning aggressive” and attempting to hold the international market “under its control”.

Additionally, he threatened to cancel a arranged talks with Beijing’s head of state Xi Jinping, which was arranged for a conference in Seoul later this month.

His statements on Friday rattled financial markets, with the benchmark US stock index closing down over two and a half percent, marking its steepest fall since April.

The previous week, the Chinese government announced it was reinforcing overseas sale regulations on rare earths and other materials essential to cutting-edge industry.

This move was regarded as a key move, as the state refines about the vast majority of the world’s rare earths, which are employed in goods such as renewable energy components and smartphones.
