The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
